Zuzanna: What it means to be part of Hnízdo as a volunteer
Every volunteer comes to our project with different expectations, fears, and dreams. Some want to gain experience working with children, others are looking to discover a new country, step out of their comfort zone, or simply live a year that feels different from all the rest.
One of the volunteers who shared a meaningful part of her journey with us over the past year is Zuzanna Walter. During her stay in the Forest Montessori Kindergarten Ledňáček, she became a natural part of our daily life. For many of us, she was no longer just "a volunteer from abroad", but simply Zuzia.
In her reflection, she describes what it was like to arrive in a new and unfamiliar country, join the life of a forest kindergarten, and gradually find her place in a completely new environment. She writes about her early uncertainties, the joy of working with children, everyday adventures in nature, and how this experience slowly changed her.
Her story is unique, yet at the same time very familiar. It reflects many of the experiences shared by other ESC volunteers who have joined us over the years. That is exactly why we decided to share it – as a small glimpse into what volunteering can bring to children, to the community, and to the young people themselves.
Every year, young people from all over Europe become part of our schools, kindergartens, and wider community. Together we learn, create, celebrate, explore, and share experiences that often turn into long-lasting friendships.
Maybe your story will be the next one we share here.
